BMW R90S Concept

This year BMW celebrates 2 distinct anniversaries. It's 90 years of motorcycle production as well as the 40th birthday of the original R90S from 1973. In tribute, BMW Motorrad teamed up with RSD to design a very retro inspired concept R90S

. This new variation is powered by the current generation Boxer flat twin hung in a one off frame and sprung with top suspension from Ohlins.  The rest of the bike is a design exercise from some of BMW's young design talent and the hands of Roland Sands and his team.

Inspiration comes from the 70's model with a much updated take. The quarter fairing and round headlight are the most obvious throwbacks. Although now integrated with LED lighting.

RSD designed the majority of the aluminum pieces, including the gauge bezel, yokes and engine covers. All in the RSD contrast cut style but also sticking with the commentary styling that is part of BMW's production machines.

Bodywork was hand crafted in house at RSD from steel sheet. The Dayton Orange paint scheme is also a nod to the original.  Some of the final bits to finish off this new age R90S are RSD wheels and FMF exhaust.

All and all a very well designed machine with great styling and modern performance. And one bike that could definitely go into production. We'll see what the higher ups at BMW say...
